At Girls on the Run, volunteers keep us running. Volunteers serve as coaches, assistant coaches, running buddies, committee members and day-of volunteers. Coaching
Head Coach
The Head Coach’s main responsibility is to prepare and deliver the Girls on the Run curriculum for the 10-week season. Throughout the lessons the coach will serve as a role model by having a healthy lifestyle and positive attitude. Most importantly, the Head Coach will have fun with the girls and encourage positive behaviors.

Assistant Coach
The Assistant Coach’s main responsibility is to serve as an encourager, cheerleader and supporter during workouts and 5K runs and to assist the Head Coach with lesson activities and workouts.

Running Buddies
A running buddy escorts one Girl on the Run or Girl on Track on the adventure of their 5K run at the end of the season. They provide encouragement and lots of high-five’s throughout the race and especially at the finish line. Running Buddies can be any family member, friend, teacher or other community supporter.

Committees
GOTR’s committees help promote and support our organization in a variety of ways. Our volunteers work throughout the year, to market GOTR, plan events, plan the 5k and raise funds. Most committees meet once a month at a set time. If you have a particular interest or skill, contact information is below. To get more information email us at volunteers@gotr-milwaukee.org.
Marketing Committee
The Marketing Committee helps promote GOTR throughout Southeastern Wisconsin, as well as produce marketing, sponsorship, program and 5k materials. This committee is critical to spreading the word to volunteers, families and donors alike. The Marketing Committee works closely with the events, 5k, grants/sponsorship and volunteer committees to help promote GOTR.
Meetings: 6:30-8pm, first Monday of every month

Events Committee
The Events Committee plans GOTR’s major fundraiser of the year, which takes place in the spring. The committee also plans and executes smaller fundraiser throughout the year such as Alterra coffee sales and City Tins. This committee has a wide variety of responsibilities in planning the fundraiser and provides a great opportunity for different skills and interests. The Events Committee is always looking for people excited about the mission of GOTR and ready to help raise funds to support our programs.
Meetings: 6:00-7:00, first Monday of every month (varies close to major event)

5K Committee
This committee manages all aspects of our 5k events in June and November. The 5k committee works closely with the marketing, sponsorship and volunteer committees to plan our two yearly races. Help us find vendors, plan the race course, request donations, prepare supplies, manage registration and more. The 5k committee also needs volunteers to stuff race packets and work the course on race day. The 5k Committee needs energetic volunteers to help plan and execute the highlight of the GOTR season.
Meetings: Meeting times vary, but in the evening.
Grant-Writing & Sponsorship Committee
The Grant-Writing/Sponsorship Committee works on researching grant and sponsorship opportunities. The committee works closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to execute a strategic plan for these opportunities, which may including creating submission materials, submitting grant/sponsorship proposals or attending meetings for potential grants/sponsorships with the Executive Director or a member of the Board of Directors. Have a public interest, research or writing skill? Enthusiastic about GOTR and love to put together and present our story? Join us on the Grant-Writing and Sponsorship Committee!

Volunteer Committee
GOTR could not exist without our fabulous volunteers. The Volunteer Committee works closely with all of our committees, as well as with the Program Coordinator and Executive Director to coordinate volunteers. The committee helps find committee members, coaches, day-of volunteers and running buddies. The committee also hosts volunteer orientation events and promotes GOTR/volunteer opportunities to committee organizations.

SoleMates Committee
Help our Fundraisers on the Run! SoleMates is the charity running arm of GOTR. Participants can raise money for GOTR by participating in any race of their choosing. Help us support our SoleMates by providing ideas/assistance for fundraising efforts, helping plan and support training runs, planning meet-ups, preparing Thank-You’s, tracking progress, and more!

Day-of Volunteers
Don’t have time to commit to being a coach or a committee member? GOTR has many opportunities for one-time or day-of volunteering. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to work at our Spring and Fall 5ks, our yearly fundraiser, as well as at promotional expos, water stands and smaller fundraisers.
